Another pouch!

Just made another little zipper pouch, using the Open Wide tutorial from Noodle Head (http://www.noodle-head.com/2012/06/open-wide-zippered-pouch-diy-tutorial.html) but using different dimensions to suit my materials. Used reproduction prints pulled from the stack my aunt sent me for my birthday a bazillion years ago, pulled 4 prints that coordinated with the purple zipper.

This pouch could easily accommodate a small knitting project. I used a 9" zipper, cut my rectangles to 9"x10.5", with a 3.5" boxed bottom depth. I have two more sets of fabrics picked out to make more of these. :)

It feels a bit silly to get so much satisfaction from this project, but alas, I love it!

A wee zippered pouch!

Used some scraps and a fun bright pink zipper to see up this little zippered pouch. Not sure why, but I'd been feeling intimidated by zippers! This was the perfect little project to wipe away those nerves.

I referenced this tutorial on the Purl Bee (http://www.purlbee.com/2014/04/18/mollys-sketchbook-simple-lined-zipper-pouches/). My pouch measures about 6.5"x6.5". It's now a home for Erin's finger puppets. :)

A little project bag

Finished a pair of socks today (blog post forthcoming) and pulled out some self-striping yarn for a new pair. And then I decided that I needed a new project bag for this pair of socks. Naturally.

I totally winged it, and am pleased enough by the results. The bag is petite--appropriate for a sock project, but not much bigger than that. (Note to self: I used 8"x16" rectangles--go bigger next time!)

Just another wild Saturday night chez birdabouttown! Used some fun stash fabrics.

Sewing project #3!!

FO: Piece A Cake dress

I made a super simple dress for Erin! Used a free pattern from Anna Maria Horner (Piece A Cake baby dress) and for fabric, an old sundress of mine. Simple raglan sleeves, gathered neckline. Easy peasy. The largest size is only 12 months, unfortunately, so I just did a shallow bottom hem. I may consider lengthening the pattern piece for the body to make it longer if I sew this again. This was finished in just two naps (my unit of time of choice).

Second sewing project for #15in15. Trying to get back on track!

FO: Follow Your Arrow2

Here it is! My finished Follow Your Arrow2. I worked all the B clues. As I've already discussed, clue 2 was a bit hellish for me. I'm only moderately happy with how that clue ultimately worked but I love the rest of it. Particularly the solid yellow section, clue 4, which is meant to look like clusters of arrows but looks like clusters of flowers to me.

The yarn is a mix of knit picks stroll, Madelinetosh sock, and Frabjous Fibers Cheshire Cat. I'm glad I was able to use some leftover bits.

WIP Wednesday

Popping in real quick before the end of the day to share a new project! A top-down raglan dress for Erin, very lossely based on Sproutlette, which I made for her this time last year. Using some lovely yarn--Tanis Fiber Arts purple label, a wool/cashmere blend--a gift from Chana from a couple years ago. :) I'll do a longer post with my plans for this dress in the next few days.

WIP Wednesday

Only one photo this week. If I bothered to photo my two sock WIPs, the photos would be nearly indistinguishable from last week.

How did a week pass with so little progress?? - my internal monologue

Working on clue 5B of my Follow Your Arrow2. Really liked clue 4B--looks like bunches of flowers to me. 5B is the end, and I'm maybe half way through, so the end is in sight.

Hopefully there will be more noticeable change next week. :-/

Look--a fabric project!*

*in the loosest sense of the word

Finally busted out my Xmas/birthday present from Raj, a Brother serger, and spent some quality time frowning at the manual. And then I serged around the edges of these flannel scraps... Et voilĂ ! Mini hankies--perfect for a mini nose. After our last round of sickness, I came to realize that flannel makes a great hanky. I have more flannel scraps that need to become hankies; maybe I'll figure out to do a nice rounded corner.

I'm counting this as my first sewing project for #15in15... My goal, my rules :)
